How do I enter?

* Complete the entry form and sign the form along with your parent/guardian

* On separate sheets of paper, answer the math puzzler by choosing which climber is in danger of falling and then giving a thorough mathematical explanation why. Answers are judged on the following criteria according to the assigned weights:

1. CORRECTNESS (10%)
2. USE OF A CLEAR AND COMPLETE MATHEMATICAL EXPLANATION TO SUPPORT THE ANSWER (40%)
3. ACCURACY OF THE MATHEMATICS EXPLAINING THE ANSWER(20%)
4. ACCURACY OF THE MATHEMATICS EXPLAINING THE ANSWER(20%)
5. BREVITY OF THE ANSWER (10%)
6. ORIGINALITY (10%).

When is the deadline to enter and when will I find out if I won?

All entries must be received by June 14, 2008. The winner will be notified by June 23, 2008.

What do I win?

The winner will receive free tuition to a Savvy Minds Summer Math Program. Summer preparatory programs are offered for Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2 and Precalculus.

CONTEST RULES, LIABILITY AND PUBLICITY RELEASE AND CONSENT

1. ELIGIBILITY . NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN . VOID WHERE PROHIBITED.
The Savvy Minds Math Puzzler Contest is open to students living in the Portland , Oregon Metropolitan area and students in Vancouver , Washington who are ages 13 to 17 at the time of entry. By entering the Contest, entrants agree to accept and be bound by all terms of these rules and regulations.

2. ENTRIES: From April 1, 2008 , to June 15, 2008 (the "Contest Period"), Savvy Minds LLC is conducting a contest. To enter, each participant must mail a entry form along with their written explanation to the puzzler to: Savvy Minds LLC 1816 SE Lambert St, Portland, OR 97202. In addition the participant must agree to the official rules and regulations, and submit an entry during the Contest Period. All entry submissions must be in the name of and submitted by an individual person. Prizes for all minors will only be awarded to their parent or legal guardian. All Entries must be received by June 15, 2008 and must be the entrants' original work. Multiple Entries from any person will be deemed void. Savvy Minds is not responsible for misdirected, inaccurate, incomplete, lost, late, delayed, undelivered, damaged, or illegible Entries, and all such Entries will be deemed void. Savvy Minds is also not responsible for errors or problems that may occur in connection with the administration of the Contest, the processing or judging of Entries, the announcement of the prizes, in any Contest-related materials, or that may limit prize fulfillment or a participant's ability to enter the Contest.

3. JUDGING: One winner will be selected by the founder of Savvy Minds LLC by June 23, 2007 , from submitters of all eligible Entries. The Winner will be determined based on evaluation of the Entries under the following criteria: CORRECTNESS OF ANSWER (10%), USE OF A CLEAR AND COMPLETE MATHEMATICAL EXPLANATION TO SUPPORT THE ANSWER (40%), ACCURACY OF THE MATHEMATICS EXPLAINING THE ANSWER(20%), USE OF DIAGRAMS AND DRAWINGS TO SUPPORT THE ANSWER (10%) BREVITY OF THE ANSWER (10%), ORIGINALITY (10%). Applicants may be asked to verify their understanding of their solution via a phone conversation. The decisions will be final and binding on all participants. The odds of being a Winner will depend on the total number of eligible Entries received during the Contest Period.

4. WINNER NOTIFICATION: The Winner will be notified by Savvy Minds LLC by June 23, 2008 , by email to the address provided with the official registration form. The minor's prize will be awarded in the name of his or her parent or legal guardian, who will be responsible for fulfilling all Winner requirements set forth herein. The Winner may be required to provide proof of identity, and verify a complete liability and publicity release claiming their prize. If any Winner fails to do so or if: (i) any prize notification is returned as undeliverable, (ii) a Winner declines his or her prize, or (iii) a Winner is determined to be ineligible for any reason, such Winner will be disqualified and, at Savvy Minds sole discretion, a replacement Winner may be selected.

5. PRIZE: One winner will be chosen. The Winner will receive a scholarship to a Savvy Minds summer math preparatory course. Approximate retail value of US $395.00. The Winner is responsible for reporting and payment of all applicable taxes incurred by the acceptance of their prize.

6. OWNERSHIP AND RIGHTS OF ENTRY/ WORK PRODUCT: Entries and other submitted material become the property of Savvy Minds LLC and will not be returned. By submitting an Entry you represent and warrant that your Entry contains a solution which was researched, compiled, explained and articulated by you and does not violate any copyright, trademark, publicity right, privacy right, or any other right of any third party.

7. MEDIA USE: By submitting an Entry, you grant Savvy Minds the right to use your name, high school name, photograph and Entry for advertising and promotional purposes for Savvy Minds programs and services, without compensation or inspection.

8. DISPUTE RESOLUTION: You agree that any and all disputes, claims and causes of action arising out of or connected with this Contest shall be resolved exclusively by arbitration pursuant to the Rules of the American Arbitration Association, and any and all claims, judgments and awards shall be limited to actual out-of-pocket costs incurred with regard to the Contest, but in no event attorneys' fees, punitive, incidental, consequential or other damages
